Julia P. Kurtz-Hoosty, 93 of Berwick passed away August 12, 2017 at Bonham Nursing Center, Stillwater. She was born July 25, 1924 in Berwick, daughter of the late Nicholas and Mary (Kinney) Patlovich.
She attended Berwick High School and later worked at Bell Telephone in the early 50s. Julia was a Girl Scout leader, and recently a member of the Red Hats-Happy Hatters. Julia and her husband Andrew lived for many years in Newark, DE returning to Berwick for retirement. She was well known for her creativity and style as a seamstress, hostess, and storyteller. She enjoyed entertaining family and friends.
Julia is survived by her daughter Marynell Spicer and husband James of Patagonia, AZ, two brothers Theodore (Ted) Patlovich of Florida, and Nicholas Patlovich of Berwick, two sisters Martha Matzko of Philadelphia, and Barbara O'Neal of Delaware, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Julia was preceded in death by her parents as well as her husband Andrew Kurtz, and later William Hoosty, brother Dr. Joe Patlovich, three sisters; Anna Vaxmonsky, Mary Sircovics, and Evelyn Pegg Bower.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday August 18, 2017 at 11:00 am, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 1730 Fowler Ave., Berwick with the Rev. Francis Tamburro officiating. Burial will follow at Pine Grove Cemetery. Family will receive friends from 10:00 am until time of service at the church.
