Derek Masich, 23, of Berwick passed away Wednesday April 19, 2017 in the comfort of his home.  Derek was born October 3, 1993 in Kingston, PA, the son of Cheryl (Conforti) Masich and Greg Masich of Berwick. As well as Cheryl’s companion John Novak of Mifflinville and Greg’s wife Debby Masich of Berwick.  Derek always wanted family to be together and that is how he passed, surrounded by his family.
In addition to his parents, Derek is survived by his sisters Mikaela and Karissa, and stepsister Misty Snyder of Berwick.  His maternal grandfather Bob Conforti and paternal grandparents George and Carol Masich of Berwick.  Derek was loved by his extended family, Scott, Melody, Jeanne and Josh Masich of Stillwater; Bob, Carolyn, Alyssa and Robby Conforti of Wakefield, RI; Liz Masich & Angie Drumm of Bloomsburg; Lisa (Conforti) Arbitman, Joey, Sydney and Taylor of Philadelphia; Libby and Quentin Miller of Allentown and Derek’s companion, Dylan Newman.
Derek was preceded in death by his maternal grandmother Elizabeth Conforti, maternal great-grandparents John and Anna Wenglovski, and Nicolas and Margaret Conforti, paternal great-grandparents Pete and Mary Sircovics, and George and Mary Arlene Masich.
Derek loved Disney World, music, and especially playing his drums. Derek also loved building and using his collection of firearms. He graduated from Berwick High School class of 2012.
While courageously battling brain cancer, Derek received his Associate Degree in Applied Science Music Recording Technology from Luzerne County Community College.  He was also employed at Kawneer and the Berwick Golf Club.
Over his four year battle with brain cancer Derek continued to amaze his friends and family with his will to live.  His family will remain forever grateful for the love and support of their friends, family, and community, who time and time again rallied to help Derek and his family.
Family will receive friends Sunday April 23, 2017 from 1:00 pm until 3:00 pm at the James L. Hinckley Jr. Funeral Home and Cremation Services Inc., 1024 Market St., Berwick. Family and friends may send online condolences to jameslhinckleyjrfuneralhome.com.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made sent to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
