Thomas W. (Tom) Bower, a kind-hearted man who was deeply loved and respected by all who knew him, passed away peacefully on February 26, 2025. Born on November 18, 1937, in Berwick, Pennsylvania, Tom lived a life marked by warmth, integrity, and a love for the simple joys of life.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Vida (Whitmire) Bower, and his brothers, George Bower and Roger Bower. Tom is survived by his beloved wife, Carolyn (Keck) Bower, who was his devoted partner in life. He is also survived by his son Dan and wife Joan Bower, stepson Terry L. Milloway and his wife, Bernadine, as well as his cherished uncle, Warren (Jr.) Bower. Tom’s legacy continues through his grandchildren, Wade and Angela Bower, and his step-grandchildren, Taylor, Hali, and Alyson. He will also be fondly remembered by his many loving nieces and nephews and his feisty feline friend, Cole.
Tom was a proud graduate of Berwick High School, Class of 1955. In his youth, he honorably served in the U.S. National Guard, demonstrating his commitment to duty and service. He later dedicated 37 years of his career as a lineman for New York State Electric and Gas (NYSEG), where his hard work and dedication left a lasting impact. After retirement, he embraced his adventurous spirit, traveling and exploring the rugged beauty of the western United States—a landscape that fascinated him and fueled his lifelong love for the Old West.
A man of many passions, Tom was a member of the Evansville Community Church and a dedicated participant in the Briar Creek Grange #146. He also found joy in music, playing the banjo as part of the “Evansville Gang,” where he shared his talent and love for music with others. An avid outdoorsman, he was a lifetime member of the NRA and took great pleasure in target shooting and spending time in nature. His love of reading, especially Western novels, transported him to the pioneering days of America’s early frontier, a world he admired and relished through countless hours of reading.
Tom’s presence in the lives of his family and friends was a gift. His warmth, humor, and steadfast spirit will be deeply missed but fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
A celebration of Tom’s life will held on March 22nd at 11:00 AM at Evansville Community (formerly Methodist) Church at 8 Lights Road, Berwick, PA. A luncheon will immediately follow the service.
