Richard Henry “Dick” Davenport passed away peacefully on Sunday evening, January 15, 2023, at the Bloomsburg Care and Rehabilitation Center, where he was a long-time resident. He was 93 years old.
Richard was born in Plymouth, PA, the son of Richard Helan Davenport and Emogene Pollock Davenport. He married the love of his life, Catherine May Jones Davenport of Nanticoke, PA, in 1953. They were the parents of six children.
He graduated from Harter High School in Nanticoke and went on to serve his country in the US Navy from 1949 – 1953 as a veteran of the Korean War. Richard was most proud of this service, and was a lifetime member of both the VFW and the American Legion.
During his lifetime, he was employed by several businesses, including McGregor Sportswear in Nanticoke, LaBar Trucking in Berwick, and Bercon Packaging in Berwick, until his retirement as a truck driver in 1994. He enjoyed spending time with his family, his friends, his pets, country music, racing stock cars, restoring and showing antique and classic cars, and riding motorcycles.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters, and his two daughters, Laurel Lee Rinehimer and Dotty Jean Hopper, his grandson Charles Hopper, his great-grandson Travis Potter, and, most recently, his beloved wife, Catherine.
Richard is survived by four sons, Richard with his husband Russell of State College, William with his wife Sally of Berwick, Thomas with his wife Alix of Williamsport, and John of Berwick.
Services will be held Saturday, January 21, 2023, at 11 a.m. at the James L. Hinckley Jr. Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 1024 Market Street, Berwick. Interment will be with his wife and daughters in Pine Grove Cemetery, 16th and Walnut Streets, Berwick.
