Richard Clayton Obituary

Richard A. Clayton, 78 of Berwick, blazed across the finish line, early Sunday morning September 24, 2023. Motor and fluids all used up, after a lifetime of riding hard on his own terms, pausing only for routine tune-ups and maintenance.

Born October 30, 1944 in Halifax, England. He was the son of the late James A. and Edith (Garside) Clayton.

He was raised and educated in England. In 1981 he moved to the United States and worked at Bloomsburg Carpet for almost 20 years. He later worked for Wise Food Inc., where he retired after 10 years of service as a forklift driver.

In his later years, Richard loved spending summers clamming, fishing and boating, in Delaware at Tuckahoe Acres, Dagsboro.  When he was younger he was an avid drag racer of motorcycles.

He will be greatly missed by his wife of 32 years, Carol L. (Lockard) Clayton. His children, Rachel, Sarah, and Damian, England. Douglas Whitmire and wife Molly, Patrick Whitmire and wife JoHanna, Christina (Whitmire) Yaple and husband David. Grandchildren, Emilie and Erinn Whitmire, Brenna and Tessa Yaple. Brother, Trevor Clayton and wife Margaret, England. As well as many nieces and nephews both in England and here.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister Joan Clayton and brother, Geoffrey Clayton both of England.
