Pastor Keith Evans Sr. age 63 of Berwick passed away on September 15, 2015.
Pastor Evans was born in 1952 in Taylor, Pa. A son of Dr. Milton and Irma Evans. A graduate of Riverside High School, he was an outstanding trumpet player and honor student graduating in 1969. After graduation from The University of Scranton in 1973 with a B.S. in Psychology, he enlisted in the U.S. Army as a Personnel/Research/Psychological Specialist, serving four years active duty. During his time of military service, he completed his Master’s Degree from Georgia State University in the field of Educational Psychology Research Measurement and Statistics. During his collegiate years he was selected for the National Honor Society in Psychology Psi Chi and The National Social Science Honor Society in Pi Gamma Mu. Also during his military service, he was awarded the Joint Service Commendation Medal, as well as the Army Commendation Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster. Following his military career, he was employed in Federal Civil Service as a Research/Statistician at Army Research Institute Field Unit, Ft. Benning, Georgia.
Pastor Evans received the call for full-time Pastoral Ministry and pursued his ministerial training at Southeastern University Assemblies of God, Lakeland, Florida where he maintained a 4.0 grade point average. Subsequently, he was licensed to preach and his ordination took place in the Georgia District Council of the Assemblies of God in 1983. He served for 33 years as an Associate Pastor with Calvary Assembly, Dade City, Fla.; Evangel Temple, Columbus, Ga.; First Assembly of God, Concord, N.C.; and Lead Pastor at Berwick Assembly of God, Berwick, Pa., beginning June 1992 where he continued for 21 years and retired in May 2013. During the course of his Pastoral Ministry he served on District and National Committees with Distinction in Ga., N.C., and Pa. Assemblies of God. For a period of time, he served as Treasurer with the Berwick Ministerium.
Rev. Keith Evans is survived by his loving wife Marilyn D’Andrea Evans of Moosic, Pa. They celebrated 43 years of marriage this year. Also surviving are two children, Keith Evans Jr. and wife, Jeni, and a daughter, Meredith Killian of Annapolis, Md. As well as two grandsons, Keith III and Kaleb of Berwick, Pa., and surviving are two sisters Marlane Evans and Carlene Marone of Virginia and Dr. Milton Evans III of Carbondale, Pa.
Family will receive friends on Sunday September 20, 2015 from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm at the James L. Hinckley Jr. Funeral Home, 1024 Market St., Berwick. Burial will be at the convenience of the family at Pine Grove Cemetery, Walnut St.
