Peter “Pete” Paul Panczyszyn, 94, of Berwick passed away Thursday January 30, 2020 at Berwick Retirement Village II. He was born April 17, 1925 in Brody Pieniaki, West Ukraine, a son of the late Joseph and Mary (Bratkiw) Pancyszyn.
Pete came to the United States on December 13, 1950 on the SS Muir Ship. He worked at County Club in Philadelphia doing kitchen prep, Shriners Hospital in the maintenance department, and Kulek MPG Assembly of Scientific Instrument and Rocket parts. He was a member of St. Cyril Methodist Church, Berwick.
He lived at Rosewood Apartments from 1977-2012 then at Berwick Retirement Village II from May 2012 until present. Pete loved to take care of his rose bushes at his apartment building. He enjoyed donating to Diabetes Association, Political Association, Veterans Association, and Feed the Children Program. Pete always had a smile on his face, and never complained about anything. He would do anything for people.
Pete is survived by brother Walter Panczyszyn, niece Mary Whitmire, great-niece Fawny McHenry, god-daughter Anna Aust, step-granddaughters; Elisabeth and Cathleen Chernyk, cousins; George and Jolanta Fedoriyczuk, Jaroslaw and Karola Fedoriyczuk, and caregivers and longtime friends Laura and Larry Varner.
Pete was preceded in death by his parents, wife Anna Kuchta who passed away June 22, 1998, companion Joan Harrington who passed away in 2008, and twin brother Paul Panczysyn who passed at infancy.
Services will be Monday February 3, 2020 at 11:00 am at James L. Hinckley Jr. Funeral Home and Cremation Services Inc., 1024 Market St., Berwick with Father Roman Petryshak officiating. Burial will follow at Elan Memorial Park. Family will receive friends from 10:00 am until time of service.
