Mildred Makar, 97, of Berwick passed peacefully away on April 6th, 2022. Mildred was born in Mocanaqua, PA, on November 1, 1924. She was the daughter of the late Guido and Theresa (Miller) Lenzini.
She graduated from Shickshinny High School in 1943. Prior to her retirement, she worked for several years at the Hairport Hair Salon as a receptionist. Mildred enjoyed family gatherings and especially enjoyed communicating with her grandchildren. Mildred was a very outgoing individual who spent numerous hours with her close friends at Little Mays. In addition, she enjoyed playing bingo and visiting the local casino. She was an avid dog lover who had multiple pets during her adult life. She was an active member of St. Joseph Church and the Rosary Society. Throughout her life she developed many loyal friendships.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded by her husband of 49 years, Steve Makar and her sister, Elizabeth “Betty” Poplawski.
She is survived by her three sons, Stephen of Miami, James of Berwick and Thomas and Mary Lynn ofWilkes-Barre. Also, surviving are her four granddaughters, Meghan and Mike Conti, Palmer Township, PA, Rebecca and Sean McHugh, Pine Township, PA, Emily Makar and her partner, Dave Anderson, Camden, NJ and Rachel Makar, Philadelphia, PA. In addition, one great-grand son, Caden Conti, Palmer Township, PA. As well as numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.

There will be a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 721 Monroe St, Berwick, PA. 18603, on Monday, April 11th, 2022, at 12PM, with the Reverend Frances J. Tamburro officiating. Burial will follow at Pine Grove Cemetery, Walnut Street, Berwick. Family will receive friends from 11AM till the time of service at the Church. At the request from the Church, please refrain from sending altar flowers due to Holy Week.
