Mildred A Brown, 96, of Berwick passed away February 7, 2016 at Elmcroft of Berwick. She was born December 11, 1919 in Jeddo, Pa, a daughter of the late Clayton and Helen (Schuchart) Yost.
She graduated from Hazelton Senior High School, class of 1937. She lived in Berwick from 1940 to 1968 when she moved to York, PA with her husband Donald, returning to Berwick in 1997. Mildred was an active member of First Presbyterian Church in Berwick where she taught Sunday school for 18 years and held offices in the Presbyterian Women Association. While in York she was active in Calvary United Presbyterian Church and Tonegal Presbyterian. She was an ordained elder and deacon in the Presbyterian Church. She was a member of Berwick Chapter 229 Eastern Star, women’s civic club and past president, member of senior circle, and BPW women of the year in 1967. She worked as assistant director of 1st Presbyterian Church kindergarten and nursery school from 1965 to 1968. She worked as an aid and teacher at the day care center in York from 1970 to 1982, where she retired. Mildred enjoyed doing crafts, gardening, volunteering, and reading.
Mildred is survived by her sons R. Kip Brown and wife Sharon of Long Neck, Delaware, and Dr. Kerry L. Brown and wife Nickie of Canastota, New York. Also, five grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, and sister Jeanne Maue of Hazelton.
Mildred was preceded in death by her husband Donald C. Brown whom she married March 9, 1940 and passed away January 2003 after 63 years of marriage, sister Orva (Yost) Sluder and two brothers; Ed and Donald Yost.
Services will be March 12, 2016 at 11:00 am at First Presbyterian Church, 320 N Market St, Berwick, PA 18603 with Rev. Darlene Little, her pastor officiating.
