Michael Stanley Maziarczyk, 93, of Berwick went to be with the Lord Monday August 24, 2015 at Berwick Retirement Village II. He was born July 28, 1922 in Wilkes Barre, Pennsylvania a son of the late Izydor and Agnes (Naklicki) Maziarczyk.
Soldier, Father (Father-in-law), Grandfather, Husband, Son, Brother, Uncle, Friend (Mike, Mickey)
He attended Cambra School. A humble veteran of WWII, Mike served in the Pacific Theatre from December 15, 1940 until December 8, 1945. Returning with “brothers” for life, he also brought home numerous honors, Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal, two Bronze Stars, World War II Victory Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Philippines and Liberation Ribbon, and the Purple Heart. Michael belonged to American Legion Shickshinny where he was past Commander, and life member of Benton VFW.
After the birth of their first son, the growing family moved to Manville, New Jersey where he raised his five children; Michael Maziarczyk and wife Anita, of Cape May, New Jersey, Mark Maziarczyk and wife Frances, of Asbury, New Jersey, Paul Maziarczyk and wife MaryEllen, of Marrietta, Georgia, Dona Murphy and husband Joseph, of Livermove, California, and David Maziarczyk and wife Jodi Ann of Mocanaqua, Pennsylvania. As well as two grandchildren, John Murphy and Jessica Maziarczyk, three step-grandchildren: Maryanne, Rick, and Melissa, and two sisters Helen Snyder, of Stillwater, and Anne Sherman, of Wyoming.
He was preceded in death by his parents as well as two brothers: Charles and Joseph Maziarczyk, four sisters: Sophie Domanski, Caroyln Smialek, Mary Russo, and Stella Kindig, and a grandson Michael Murphy.
In 2002 Mike returned to the mountains of Pennsylvania. He was now minutes from his Ridge Runners Sportsmen Club. He was at home in the woods. His yearly garden was a labor of love; an appetizing work of art. Mike was an avid reader and keenly adept in current affairs. Football and baseball were past times shared with all five of his children, no matter the distance between them!
Travel filled a portion of pre and post retirement days. Many of his trips were the annual reunion of the US Army 41st Infantry Division. Every year he would host his family to celebrate his birthday. We would spend a week together, most often at Cape May. Mike was a man of strong, lifelong faith.
He was fiercely independent, living on his own until his illness no longer permitted it this year. Thank yous to Berwick Commonwealth Home Hospice and Griswold Home Care. Also, cousins, Veronica and Michael.
