Mary Lee Melchiorre Scala 92, of Berwick Pa; went to be with the Lord, Tuesday April 17, 2018 Geisinger Home Health & Hospice at Maria Hall, Danville Pa.
Mary Lee was born April 9, 1926 in West Virginia, a daughter of the late George and Thelma “Elliott” Phares
She graduated from Berwick High School. She worked for Wise Foods. She owned Lee’s Fabric Center and she was an exceptional seamstress. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, where she was the CCD coordinator for many years and she facilitated home bible study groups. She was instrumental in the Cursillo movement in Berwick.
She was preceded in death by her first husband Angelo Melchiorre who passed in 1972 and a brother Joe Phares and a sister Nellie Smith.
She is survived by her husband Gabe M. Scala, whom she married April 19, 1977 and three daughters Angela and her husband Gordon Harmon, Pennie and her husband Rich Matash, Faith and her husband Bart Fisher all of Berwick and two sons Mark Melchiorre of South Pasadena, Ca and Jim Melchiorre and his wife Sherry of Berwick and a step son Gabe J. Scala and his wife Gina of Bethlehem and fifteen grandchildren, five step grandchildren and eighteen great grandchildren, six step great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian burial will be Saturday, April 21, 2018 at 11:00 am at St. Joseph Catholic Church 721 Monroe St. Berwick, Pa 18603 with her pastor, Rev Matthew Larlick officiating. Burial will be at Roselawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday from 9:30 am until the time of service.
