Heaven gained a precious angel on June 7, 2016 when Marie Canouse, 85, passed away at her home under the watchful care of her loving family and the wonderful hospice caretakers who were so instrumental in providing her comfort through her recent illness.
Marie will be greatly missed and forever loved by the multitude of people whose lives she touched and bettered over the years. The daughter of John and Mary (Lanning) Erwine, Marie was born on January 4, 1931,
She is survived by her six daughters, Margie (Gary) Young, Mary (Brad) Smith, Crystal Distler, Debra (Scott) Sitler, Connie (Max) Sitler, and Donna (Todd) Cragle. Marie was blessed with 13 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren who were able to enjoy the most loving, humorous, and accommodating Gram in the world. Marie’s two sisters, Margretta (Fred) Schell and Joan Conrad survive as well.
Her husband Kenneth Canouse, preceded her in death in 1997 as well as her parents and two brothers, Leonard and Russell Erwine, and several grandchildren and great grandchildren.
A personal seamstress for many years, Marie provided countless hours of custom alterations and creations for many satisfied customers. She was a member of and active in the Evansville United Methodist Church all her life. Her greatest joy and proudest accomplishments were her family and she provided the foundation for a large, diverse family of many personalities forever bonded by her never ending love and support, keeping us all on our toes with her sharp wit and ability to never miss a trick. She has gained sparkly angel wings and a many-colored crown of jewels to go with her always perfect hair and painted toes. We will miss her forever but she will remain steadfast in our hearts.
Services for Marie will be Saturday, June 11, 2016 at 11:00 am at Evansville United Methodist Church 8 Lights Rd. Berwick, Pa, with Pastor Strother Gross and Chaplin Michael Delp officiating. Burial will be at Pine Grove Cemetery, Walnut St., Berwick. The family will receive friends Saturday from 9:00 am until the time of service.
