Margaret (Peggy) Elizabeth Belles 82, of Berwick passed away Friday June 12, 2015 at Grandview Nursing Home, where she was a resident for 5 years.
She was born April 25, 1933 in Toughkenamon, PA, a daughter of the late Charles and Alice (Saunders) Knotts.
Peggy graduated from Ellis School for Girls in New Town Square, Philadelphia and then went to nursing school at the University of Pennsylvania graduating in 1954. She worked as a registered nurse at the VA Hospital in Delaware, Bloomsburg Hospital, and Berwick Hospital. She worked for six years for Columbia Montour Home Health, and her final twelve years Berwick Home Care. She belonged to the Berwick R.N. Association, and was in the Ladies Auxiliary in both Summerhill United Methodist Church and Evansville United Methodist Church. Also, she sang in the Evansville United Methodist choir. Peggy enjoyed writing letters, sending cards, reading, gardening, canning, and doing needle work.
She is survived by her husband Clayton A. Belles, whom she married October 8, 1955. As well as four children: George R. Belles and wife Mary Ann, Bonnie Waybright, Daniel Belles, and Melissa Johnson. Four grandchildren: David Belles, Trisha Fry, Skyler Belles, and Matthew Belles, and three great grandchildren Katherine Belles, Aubrey and Adalynn Fry. She is the last surviving member of her immediate family.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by a son James Belles, a sister Alma Stillwell, and two brothers Harry and Lewis Knotts.
Services will be Monday June 15, 2015 at 10:00 am at the James L. Hinckley Jr. Funeral Home 1024 Market St. Berwick with Pastor Ed Cope and Dennis Sitler officiating. Burial will follow at Pine Grove Cemetery, Walnut Street. Family will receive friends Sunday June 14, 2015 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the funeral home.
