Marcyl Laubach Obituary

Marcyl J. Laubach, 93, of Berwick, passed away Sunday May 24, 2020 at the Berwick Retirement Village ll. She was born February 23, 1927, in Berwick, the youngest of seven children of the late James E. and Carrie (Dresher) Jarrard.

Marcyl graduated from Berwick High School in the Class of 1945, after which she started her career at First National Bank of Berwick, being the first female Teller. After working there 37 years, she retired in 1982.

She has been a faithful member of the Bower Memorial Church since 1939. She sang in the Chancel Choir for over 50 years. She was a member of The United Methodist Women and taught in the Nursery and Kindergarten Departments. She was treasurer of each organization to which she belonged, as well as church treasurer for 15 years.

Marcyl’s hobbies include knitting and quilting and, over many years, taking care of four Black Lab dogs.

On May 21, 1955, Marcyl married Eugene “Pete” Laubach who died, after 59 years of marriage, on April 29, 2014.

In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by her sister Elizabeth Jarrard Shultz, her five brothers: Winston, Lee, James Jr, Paul and Sherlyn; nieces Jeanne Jarrard Yarmol and Claire Jarrard; 5 nephews: Tommy Shultz, and Larry, David, Paul Jr, and James Jarrard lll. She was the last of her immediate family.

Marcyl will be very much missed by her surviving nieces and nephews and their spouses: Carimar Shultz Patrician (Bob), Marcy Shultz Sabatini (Joe), Winston Jarrard Jr (Debbie), Janet Jarrard Logan (Keith), Carel Jarrard Black (Stan), Lee Jarrard Jr., Connie Jarrard, Joyce Jarrard Conser, Robert (Bob) Jarrard (Audrey), Betsy Jarrard Walton (Dane), Lynne Jarrard, Jill Jarrard Hudleson (Gene), Nan Jarrard Walton (David). She also is mourned by many great and great-great nieces and nephews.

The family expresses deep gratitude to Gary and Johannah Naus, Sandy Canouse, Cathy Quick, Scott Rogers, and the Staffs of Berwick Retirement Village II. and Commonwealth Hospice for their extraordinary care and thoughtfulness during Marcyl’s last years. We also extend our sincere thanks to her special friends and neighbors: Donna, Brad, Ruby, Karen, Suellen, Cheryl, Vickie, Connie, David, and Susan and all those who were part of the “evening social group.”

A graveside service, conducted by Pastor Kathy Baughman-Frey of Bower Memorial Church, is scheduled for 11:30 am Saturday August 1, 2020 at Pine Grove Cemetery on Market Street, Berwick. Please abide by social distancing and the family requests you wear a mask while attending.
