Larry C Michael

Larry C. Michael, 80, of Berwick passed away Monday April 27, 2020 at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville. He was born November 20, 1939 in Berwick, a son of the late Jesse Michael and Lois (Manning) Michael Giovino.

He graduated from Berwick High School where he played football and wrestled. Larry served in the United States Navy from 1958 until 1963 after being extended one year on active duty due to the Cuban Missle Crisis. He was honorably discharged at the rank of E5 Petty Officer 2 Personnelman (PN) while serving in Hawaii.

Larry served in the banking industry before moving back to Berwick in 1978. He worked for Naugle Lumber then Wise Foods as a supervisor in the garage. Upon retirement from Wise Foods he worked at Berwick Hospital as an EMT and in the Operating Room. He then worked as a school bus driver at Gallagher’s Bus Company.

Larry enjoyed camping and hiking, boating and fishing in Canada at Bob’s Lake Ontario. He also enjoyed motorcycling on his Gold Wing and rode in several national parks and attended Americade at Lake George. Larry and Tina also vacationed at Cape Cod, Key West Florida, Elk County, PA, and Lackawaxen, PA to view the bald eagles. He enjoyed his hobby of photography when he traveled. He also was an avid Berwick Bulldog Football fan, and officiated high school wrestling.

Larry is survived by his wife the former Bettina Hickman, whom he married in 1979, son Scott Michael and wife Marci of West Chester, PA, daughter Traci Himmelreich and husband Keith of Sinking Springs, PA, three grandchildren; Samantha, Erik, and Jake Michael, sister JoAnn Seaman husband Jerry of Danbury, CT, brother Craig Michael wife Valerie of San Antonio, TX, and sister-in-law Nancy Michael of Duncansville, PA.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents as well as his brother Drue Michael.

Services will be at the convenience of the family at Elan Memorial Park.
