Joseph “Joe” East Obituary
Joseph "Joe" W. East, 88 of Berwick went to be with his Lord and Savior, Friday, July 16, 2021, at the Berwick Hospital.
He was born March 2, 1933, in Berwick and was a son of the late William and Ethel Fitch East. Joe was raised by William and Edith Runge in Numidia
Joe Attended Shiloh Bible Church, Bloomsburg. Joe worked many jobs throughout his life including digging potatoes for Chapins, selling Christmas trees along Route 11 for David Stoker his longtime friend, mowed lawns for several families, and helped distribute food in Necopeck to families. Joe worked until the age of 87. In his earlier years, Joe did Jello, pudding, and applesauce wrestling for Novelty Wrestling.
In addition to his parents and foster parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Hannah Irene Search, two sisters; Mary Alice Whitfield and Marqueen East, and a brother William East
He was survived by a daughter Elizabeth Bishop and husband Earl, two granddaughters, four great-grandchildren, two sisters, Dorothy Humphrey and Delores Hartman, several nieces, and nephews, and all his friends and adopted family, and if you knew Joe you were his friend.
Joe was fondly known as Pappy Joe and was loved by everyone. Joe will be deeply missed by all.
Memorial services will be held Saturday, July 24 at noon from the James L. Hinckley Jr. Funeral Home and Cremation Services Inc. at 1024 Market St. Berwick, with Rev. Dr. Douglas Lyons, his Pastor officiating. Visitation will be held 11am until the time of the service at the funeral home.
