Jay Albert Witchey. 87, of Berwick, Pa, went to be with the Lord, Tuesday, October 6, 2015, at his residence surrounded by his family.
Jay was born January 5, 1928, in Beaver Valley (Dogtown) Pa, a son of the late Albert and Irene (Baker) Witchey. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by three sisters Miriam Hunsinger, Betty Sherman and Jean Davis.
He was a graduate of Beaver Valley School, class of 1946, a veteran in the Korean War, worked at Magee Carpet now Autoneum, retiring in 1994 after 45 years of service. He enjoyed hunting, collecting baseball cards, gardening, coin collecting and horseshoes. He was a member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church of Berwick.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years the former Delores (Eveland) Witchey, a daughter Lori Bassett and her husband Scott of Mt. Top, Pa and a son David Witchey and his wife Lisa of Berwick and two grandchildren Matthew Jay Witchey and Shannon Nicole Witchey.
Services will be Friday, October 9, 2015 at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church 1000 Orange St. Berwick, Pa 18603 at 11:00 am, with his Pastor Dennis McCracken officiating. Burial will follow at Roselawn Cemetery. Friends may call at the Church from 10:00 am until the time of service. In lieu of flowers contributions in his memory can be sent to St. Paul’s Church.
