Janet L. (Force) Vandermark

Janet L. Vandermark, 74, of Berwick, passed away at her home on Thursday, July 2, 2026,  after a lengthy battle with cancer.

Born Dec. 31, 1951, in Berwick, she was a daughter of the late Donald C. Force and Doris M. (Naugle) Force. 

Janet attended the Berwick Area School District. Janet spent much of her working life serving others and taking pride in an honest day’s work. She worked at Carrie McFalls in Williamsport, making window treatments. She later worked in the kitchen at the Berwick Area School District, and she eventually retired from Wise Potato Chips, where she worked as a packer. 

Janet and her late husband enjoyed spending time together at various local social clubs and she especially loved attending Berwick football games. She enjoyed traveling, going to casinos, and making the most of life’s simple pleasures. One of her final outings was a trip to the casino, where she even won the day before her passing, a memory that reflects her spirit and her enjoyment of life. She also loved animals and found comfort and companionship in the pets she cared for, including her two cats, Mariner and Dunkin.

Family was the center of Janet’s life, and she treasured every moment spent with those she loved. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lester L. Vandermark, who died on June 17, 2022; as well as by her daughter, Sue Ellen Zunga; her sister, Tommie Lou Smith; and a niece, Samantha Minier.

Janet is survived by her children: Robyn Donaway, Bonnie K. Vandermark-Geary and her husband, Mike, Lesley Jo Dawson, Linda K. Vandermark, and John Edward Vandermark and his wife, Beata. She also leaves behind her beloved grandchildren: Max, Will, Erika, Angela, Chad, Michelle, Deana, Grant, Valeen, and Leslie; along with 21 great-grandchildren who brought her great joy. She is also survived by her sisters: Phyllis C. Foster and her husband, Dave, and Evelyn E. Kemp and her husband, Sterling; as well as numerous nieces and nephews who will remember her with love.

A funeral service to honor the life of Janet will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 14 ,at James L. Hinckley Jr. Funeral Home and Cremation Services Inc. 1024 N. Market St., Berwick. A viewing will be held from 10 a.m. until time of service at the funeral home. Burial will be held privately at the convenience of the family.
