Harry Ervan Michael, 93, of Berwick passed away Tuesday October 20, 2015 at Berwick Retirement Village II. He was born December 21, 1921 in Berwick, a son of the late Harry B. and Mabel (Green) Michael.
He graduated from Berwick High School class of 1939 and attended Bloomsburg State Teachers College. Harry served in the United States Navy for 8 years during World War II, where he earned a bronze star, he served on submarines. He worked for Bordan now known as Wise Foods in Berwick for 36 years retiring in 1985. He belonged to Berwick Christian Church where he was a deacon for several years; trustee and worked at Church Camp Epachiseca in Stillwater. Harry was a member of Refrigeration Service Engineer for 20 years, Columbia Montour Barbershop Chorus where he directed for two years, American Legion, American Association of Retired Persons, Senior Circle, and the Berwick Elks. He cofounded with his wife Sweet Adelines Chorus where he served as director.
Harry is survived by two children; Thomas W. Michael and wife Kaye of Berwick, and Carol Wik and husband Thomas of Ocala, Florida, and two step sons John F. Girton Jr and his wife Sherrie of Tucson, Arizona, and Wayne R. Girton and wife Bonnie of Greer, South Carolina. As well as a sister Gerry Heckman of Berwick, eight grandchildren, two step grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and four great-great grandchildren.
Harry was preceded in death by his first wife Ann R. Miller who passed away in 1982, and his second wife Dorothy Davis Girton who passed away in 2006. As well as a son Harry “Skip” Michael, a great granddaughter Katy Thetford, and a sister Eudora Thomas.
Services will be Friday October 23, 2015 at 11:00 am, at the James L. Hinckley Jr. Funeral Home, 1024 Market St. Berwick with Rev. John Hill his pastor officiating. Burial will follow at Roselawn Cemetery. Family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday, from 10:00 am till time of service.
