Geraldine "Gerry" Heckman Obituary

Geraldine Elizabeth Heckman, 90, of Berwick, passed away peacefully on September 12, 2025, at her residence, the same home where she was born on February 20, 1935.

Her career journey began at the counter of Rae and Derricks and continued at Lady Ester before she found her niche in hospitality, waitressing at Weikels Restaurant. She eventually retired from Weis Markets.

Geraldine's interests were as rich and varied as the life she led. A devout participant in numerous Bible studies, she found solace and strength in her faith. Her love for reading was only matched by her passion for gardening, where she found tranquility among the flowers and plants she nurtured. In the kitchen, her cooking was the stuff of family legend, and her sewing skills were unmatched, each stitch a testament to her meticulous nature. Daily walks were a staple, providing her with moments of reflection and an appreciation for the simple beauty of her hometown. She was 70 years old when she finished the Run for the Diamonds with her friend Arie Harvery

Described by those who knew her best as loving and funny, Geraldine's sense of humor was a gift she generously shared, ensuring that laughter was a constant in the lives of those around her. Her ability to find joy in the ordinary made every moment extraordinary, and her love was the invisible thread that wove her family together.

Geraldine, affectionately known as Gerry to her friends, was the heart of her family, nurturing her five children, cherishing her eleven grandchildren, and adoring her six great-grandchildren with a love that knew no bounds. She is survived by five children: Stephen Heckman and his wife Nyeoka of Roanoke, VA; Stephanie Heckman of Indianapolis, IN; Scott Heckman and his wife Melinda of Beech Creek, PA; Stewart Heckman and his wife Zhanna of Chestertown, NY; and Shawn Heckman and his wife Tammy of Benton. Her grandchildren Sheilla, Simone, Cody, Jenna, Nick, Vanessa, Kendra, Kara, Krista, Breanna, and Tyler, as well as her great-grandchildren Alex, Briar, Kase, Carter, Ellie, and Atlas, will carry her legacy forward with stories of her loving spirit and laughter that could light up a room. She was also survived by her nephew Tom Michael and wife Kaye. The family would like to thank her good friend Gloria Siegel for her great care and friendship.

Gerry was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Drue Heckman, who passed away on November 1, 2004, her parents Harry and Mabel (Green) Michael, brother Harry "Mike" Michael Jr., and sister Eudora Thomas.
