Gary Shingler Obituary

Gary L. Shingler, 83, of Berwick went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, Sept. 1, 2019, at 3:20 p.m. He was born May 30, 1936, in Berwick, a son of the late Lewis and Beatrice (Bennett) Shingler.
He attended Berwick schools and then worked for PennDOT, Berwick Forge and Fabricating, until retiring from Magee Carpet Co. He and his first wife, Joanne, ran Black Crow Archery Shop in Summerhill for many years selling hunting, fishing, and trapping equipment, as well as arrows and bowstrings, which he made. Gary loved going to his cabin and was a member of the Nescopeck Beagle Club and a life member of the Summerhill Fire Company. He also enjoyed hunting and spending time with all of his many grandchildren.
Gary is survived by his wife, the former Elnora Bauman, to whom he was married April 7, 2012; two children: Tammy Dietterick of Bloomsburg, Jess Shingler and wife Marcella of Jonestown; six grandchildren: Joshua Dietterick, Sara Carros and husband Peter, Jeremy Shingler and wife Amy, Micah Shingler and wife Esther, Andrew Shingler and wife Lindsey, Amalie Ramsay and husband Adrian; and 21 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his two stepchildren: Larry Girton and wife Sandy of Bloomsburg, Edward Joline and wife Sandy of Berwick; three step-grandchildren: Emily Mowery and husband Josh, Ryan Joline and companion Kristi Betz, and Lindsey Joline; and one step-great-greatgrandson.
Gary was preceded in death by his parents, as well as his first wife, the former Joanne Hosler.
Services will be held Friday, Sept. 6, 2019, at 11 a.m. at Berwick Bible Church, 1426 Spring Garden Ave., Berwick, PA 18603, with his son, Pastor Jess Shingler, officiating, and the Rev. Brad Iverson assisting. Burial will follow at the Summerhill Cemetery. Family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until the time of service at the church.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be sent to “Kid’s Kamp”, 712 Winding Road, Orangeville, PA 17859.
The family would like to thank all of the nurses and doctors at Knapper Clinic and Geisinger Hospice.
