Edna Belles Obituary

Edna Mae Belles, 101, passed away peacefully on Oct. 23, 2025, at Glen Brook Rehabilitation and Health Care Center, where she had resided since November 2023. She was born in Beach Haven, on April 12, 1924, a daughter of the late William F. and Clara M. (Smethers) Ungemach.

Edna’s early education was at the one-room schoolhouse in Beach Haven. She then went on to graduate from Berwick High School in 1942. She worked for a short time at the AC&F and Milco, but most of her working career was as a seamstress at the Berwick Shirt Factory (Dockey’s), retiring in 1988.

On March 25, 1948, Edna married her loving husband, Robert B. Belles, who preceded her in death on Sept. 8, 2005. They lived their entire married life on East Fifteenth Street in Berwick.

Edna was a member of Bethany United Methodist Church, (now Bethany Church of Berwick) where she has been a member of the Pioneer Sunday School Class, Over the Hill Club, and enjoyed being a quilter with the quilting group. She was also a member of the Berwick Historical Society.

Edna’s greatest joy was spending time with family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also enjoyed sewing, reading, and doing word puzzles.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her stepson, Robert A. Belles; her brother, Ralph Ungemach, and wife, Anne; and her sister, Dawn Skwarek, and husband, Julius.

Edna is survived by her daughter, Billee Horn, and husband, Robert; grandchildren: Brian Horn and wife, Melissa, Megan Econopouly and husband, Cashius, Scott Belles and wife, Julie, Thomas Belles, and David Belles. She is also survived by eight great-grandchildren: Paige, Grayson, and Ryder Horn, Welles, Bear, and Aida Mae Econopouly, and Sara and Abigail Belles.
