Crystal Jean Canouse, 91, of Berwick passed away Tuesday December 27, 2022 at Geisinger-Bloomsburg Hospital. She was born January 25, 1931, in Lime Ridge, a daughter of the late George and Mary (Boone) Masich.
She graduated from Berwick High School class of 1949 where she was the class treasurer. She worked at Wise Potato Chips as a secretary for 43 years retiring in 1993. Crystal was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Berwick, the PA Jazz Society winning the 2001 Jazzar Award, and the Berwick Civic Club where she received the first Girl of the Month.
Many of Crystal’s passions came from sharing a 52-year marriage with her husband Bob. Bob’s being stationed in Louisiana during his time in the Army, planted the seeds of their lifelong love of all things Jazz. They loved taking family and friends to New Orleans, Jazz Festivals and events throughout the country. Crystal and Bob were incredible to their many nieces and nephews. Sharing trips, love of civil war history and their enthusiasm for jazz, just to name a few of their shared passions.
Her family will always remember Crystal as the Matriarch. Whether she was schooling them in how to “lose” at cards or how to make the best cocktail, Crystal was the life of the party. Crystal was an exceptional bridge player and enjoyed playing with her friends. She will be fondly be remember her huge laugh and fun loving nature by family and friends alike.
Crystal is survived by her brother George Masich wife Carol of Berwick, brother-in-law Vito Canonico of Oregon, and sister-in-law Carol Rudy Masich.As well as nieces and nephews; Scott Masich (Melody), Greg Masich (Debby), Elizabeth Masich (Angie Drumm), Katie Vols (Andy), Andrew Masich, Matthew Masich (Tonya), Shawn Masich (Kiran), Michael Masich (Monica), Vicki Wilcox, Philip Canonico, and numerous great nieces and nephews.
Crystal was preceded in death by her parents as well as her husband Robert C. Canouse who passed away on April 10, 2003, ending a 52-year marriage, brothers Jimmie Masich who passed in 2011, Edward Masich who passed in 2020, sister-in-laws Becky Canonico, and Mabelann Masich.
Services will be Friday December 30, 2022, at 11:00 am at the James L. Hinckley Jr. Funeral Home and Cremation Services Inc., 1024 Market St., Berwick with Pastor Troy Spencer officiating. Burial be at the convenience of the family. Family will receive friends from 10:00 am until time of service at the funeral home.
