Obituary

Carl “Cheese” Joseph Cerreta, 77, of Berwick went home to Heaven on Wednesday, 12/30/20 at the Geisinger Medical Center. Cheese was a man of integrity, strength, hard work, bravery, and humor. He loved his family more than anything. Everyone in Berwick of a certain age will remember Cheese from his Camaros.

Cheese was born in Berwick on 8/14/43, the son of the late Carl and Mary Cerreta of Berwick. He was preceded in death by his sister and brother-in-law, the late Flora and Brooks Knorr of Berwick. In addition to his loving wife Susan (Yendrytzka) Cerreta, Cheese is survived by his sister and husband, Barbara and Dean Anoia of Bloomsburg, his sister-in-law and brother-in-law Dennis and Carol Karol of Rehoboth Beach, DE, and his mother-in-law Harriet Yendrytzka of Berwick.

Cheese graduated from Berwick High School in 1961. He married the love of his life, Susan, on April 15th, 1967. They were married 53 amazing years. Susan and his three beloved children - John Cerreta of Berwick, David Cerreta and wife Jennifer of Bloomsburg, and Robyn Ryman and husband Tim of Berwick - will carry on with him in their hearts and remember him every day. Cheese had 8 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren whom he loved and cherished with all his heart – grandchildren Dana Cerreta of Delray Beach, FL; Gabrielle Cerreta of Espy; Nika Sokoloski of Brooklyn, NY; Corie Bush of Middleburg, PA; Tyler Storm of Pottstown, PA; Carson Cerreta of Berwick; Leo Cerreta of Bloomsburg;  and Macy Ryman of Berwick. Great-grandchildren Anya Dashiell of Espy and Zoey Bush of Middleburg, PA. They all loved their Pop so very much.

Cheese began his career as a salesman at Sears in Bloomsburg. He started his own screenprinting business - “Cerreta’s” - in Berwick in 1976 and ran it with great success until 1997 when he closed his business and became manager of AutoZone in Berwick until his retirement in 2013. In his younger days, Cheese enjoyed dancing and was given the nickname “Smooth as Silk”. Cheese always loved working on hotrods. He enjoyed browsing flea markets and picking berries. He was a traveler who loved adventure. Some of his favorite places he went with his family were Tennessee, Rehoboth Beach, the Italian countryside, Disney World, and the Metropolitan Museum of Art in NYC.

Cheese will be greatly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him and loving him.
