Betty Alice Stout, 99, of Miffliville, residing in Spring Brook PA with her granddaughter for the past 3 years passed away on Sunday October 8, 2023, at Saint Mary’s Villa, Elmhurst PA. She was born July 31, 1924, in Berwick a daughter of the late Wilson and Laura (Brown) Vandermark Sr.
She graduated from Berwick High School class of 1942. Betty worked at Milton Standard Speaker, Van’s Appliances for 15 years in the office, and retired in 1988 from the Columbia County Courthouse where she was a clerk. She was a Township Auditor for Mifflin Township for many years. After retirement she volunteered to help with the taxes with AARP (TCE) starting in 1989 at the Lightstreet and Bloomsburg sites, and was a valued and dedicated volunteer for over 25 years at Columbia County Volunteers in Medicine Clinic(CCVIM).
Betty was a member of Stone United Methodist Church where she was active in the Women’s Grange, a Lay Leader, and on the Administrative Board.
Betty is survived by two children: Raymond Stout wife Lyn, Linda Lindner, five grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Betty was preceded in death by her husband Raymond(Tiny) Stout who passed away on October 2, 1985, and three brothers Wilson, Robert, and Jack Vandermark and infant grandson Matthew Richard Stout in 1977.
Services will be Thursday October 12, 2023 at 11:00 am at the James L. Hinckley Jr. Funeral Home and Cremation Services Inc., 1024 Market St., Berwick with Nathan Archey officiating. Burial will follow at Elan Memorial Park. Family will receive friends from 10:00 am until time of service at the funeral home.
