She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Mark A. Grasley Sr., on March 19, 2022.
Born Oct. 30, 1938, in Bloomsburg, she was the daughter of the late Richard and Mary (Herrman) Benfield.
Betty was a graduate of Berwick High School and spent her early years as a skilled seamstress at Lady Esther. Betty’s dedication to her community was further reflected in her long-standing involvement with the Bethany Church of Berwick. As a longtime member, Betty served as the church secretary for 17 years, children’s choir director for 22 years, and a Sunday School teacher in the children’s department for an impressive 42 years. Her melodious voice graced the chancel choir for many years, and she played a pivotal role as a volunteer for vacation Bible school, and served on the administration board and numerous other committees. For 26 years, Betty worked at the Bloomsburg Fair in Hewlett’s hot sausage stand. Her work ethic and commitment to service were evident in every aspect of her life.
Betty’s passions included shopping, sewing, crocheting, singing, and playing her piano. Betty’s love for the New York Yankees was unmatched, and she attended many games, cheering on her favorite team with enthusiasm.
Surviving are her four loving children: Mark A. Grasley Jr. and wife, Chrissy, of Hamburg, Pennsylvania, Matthew A. Grasley and wife, Rebecca, of Houston, Texas, Marty A. Grasley and wife, Vickie, of Berwick, and Melanie Grasley-Mordan and husband, Michael “Bubba”, of Berwick. She was a proud grandmother to seven grandchildren: Aaron, Marinna, Martin Jr., Maranda, Mitchell, Gabriel, and Alexis; and a great-grandmother to Forrest, Brayden, Dean, Jamie, and Jaxon. Betty also leaves behind her brother, Richard Benfield, and Betsy, of Buckhorn; along with cherished family friends: Elizabeth and Kenzley Burkland, Bentley Benintende; and two adored nieces.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved dog, Jeter.
