Barbara J. Neuhard

Barbara J. Neuhard went to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, July 21, 2020 at her home in Bloomsburg after a long battle with cancer.  Barb was born  on August 17, 1948 and grew up in Berwick. She was  the daughter of the late Carl and Jean (Whitemire) Neuhard. 

She graduated from Berwick High School in 1966 and from Bloomsburg State College in 1972 with her Bachelor’s degree in Special Education and received her M. Ed. in Special Education in 1975. Initially she was hired by the Bloomsburg Area School District  to teach special education at the elementary school in Mainville.  Subsequently Barb moved to Memorial Elementary School in Bloomsburg where she taught for over 30 years.  After retirement she enjoyed lunching with former classmates and her retired  teachers group. 

Barb was a consummate and committed teacher in every way. For many years she taught the preschool Sunday school class at her church. She also taught Vacation Bible School every summer for over 25 years, and was an active teacher for the Good News Club at Memorial Elementary. Additionally, she tutored many young children with learning difficulties and got them on the way to successful school careers. 

Barbara had a spectacular alto voice and singing was one of the passions of her life.  She was involved  in choral singing from her youngest years.  She sang in her church choirs and many others choirs including the Bicentennial Choir and The Jubilate Choir.  She also sang in many smaller singing groups.  She enjoyed doing solo singing performances with her last performance on Good Friday of last year. 

Barb had a pet rabbit named Snuggles for many years and was a devoted  animal lover and advocate.  She was an avid collector of rabbit memorabilia throughout her later years.

Throughout her life Barbara’s Christian faith sustained and comforted her.  Most recently she faithfully attended Shiloh Bible Church.  A future memorial service will be held at the church when prevailing health restrictions allow.

Barbara is survived by her sister, Edithann Juengst and a niece and nephew, Leslie and Evan Juengst.   She is also survived by a large contingent of loving and devoted friends who sustained and cared for her during her illness.

Arrangements  have been entrusted to the James L. Hinkley Funeral Home and Cremations Services Inc., Berwick, PA.  A private grave side service will be held in the near  future.
