Arty Oliver led and loved his family with a gentle and quiet strength. His priorities were always clear: God and Family. He was wise, warm, and welcoming. He was everything a husband, dad, grampa, son, brother, and friend should be. He showed us all what we could be.
Arty and his wife Ang share a love that is as deep as it is wide. They together raised three boys and devoted themselves to loving their family and community with the same love God poured out on them.
Every Sunday, Ang and Arty would open up their home to the chaos of 6 grandsons and Arty would prepare a meal for his family to enjoy. Even during busy weeks and tiring weekends, he made sure his family always knew they were welcome.
Arty loved to be outside. He loved to fish, hike, kayak, and sit by a campfire. He shared his love for the outdoors with his boys and they developed traditions of yearly backpacking, fishing, and kayaking trips.
He loved vacations and adventures and never went to the same place twice. He planned for his family to see the sunrise at the top of Cadillac mountain, to climb Otter Cliffs, to hang glide above the ocean, and learn to water ski.
A Celebration of his life will be held at LCBC Columbia Montour on Saturday, August 19th at 11am. The service will include some of Arty’s favorite songs and words from his friends and family. The family is mourning closely, so in lieu of visitation after the service, a way to leave a written or video message will be provided. All are invited to attend and are encouraged to dress casually: it’s what Arty would have wanted.
Family and friends may send online condolences to jameslhinckleyjrfuneralhome.com. The James L. Hinckley Jr. Funeral Home and Cremation Services Inc., Berwick is handling arrangements.
