Shirley M. Knecht, 91, of Berwick, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 13, 2019, at the Berwick Retirement Village. Shirley was born Jan. 31, 1928, in Berwick, the daughter of the late William H. and Millicent (Seybert) Martz.
She graduated from the Berwick Area High School Class of 1945. Shirley was employed at the AC&F during and after World War II. In 1948, she married Warren F. Knecht, and was a homemaker until her children were both in school. Shirley then began working at the First National Bank of Berwick, first as a secretary, and eventually becoming an Assistant Vice-President and the manager of the first branch office opened by the Bank. Over the years, Shirley was a member of numerous local community organizations. She lived in North Berwick from 1948 until 2017.
Shirley is survived by two sons: Douglas W. Knecht and his wife, Mary, and Richard W. Knecht and his wife, Ann, all of Berwick; five grandchildren: Kristin, Douglas, Mia, Andrew, and Matthew; and four great-grandchildren: Paetyn, Parker, Cameron, and Miles.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, as well as her husband, Warren, who passed away in 1985; her sister, Gladys Wallace; and also longtime companion, Ralph J. Palmiero Jr., who passed away in March 2019.
A celebration of life will be held Sunday, Aug. 18, 2019, from 4 until 6 p.m. at the James L. Hinckley Jr. Funeral Home and Cremation Services Inc., 1024 Market St., Berwick. Burial will be at the convenience of the family at the Pine Grove Cemetery.
