Claire Lenore Sweppenhiser was born July 16, 1935, to Ario P. Sweppenhiser and Harriet E. Schultz Sweppenhiser.
She was predeceased by her parents and sister, Charlotte Ann.
Having lived all of her life in the Mifflinville-Mainville area, she moved to Third Street, Bloomsburg, in 2003. Claire lived for her first 68 years in the same childhood home until she moved to Scott Meadows where she learned to love a new community of friends.
A 1953 graduate of Mifflin Township High School, she was a title clerk, secretary, and administrative assistant at Gay Car Sales and then also secretary at Gay Monument Sales in Berwick, for over 40 years.
She spent the last seven months of her life at Sunset Ridge Nursing Home in Bloomsburg. On June 5, 2019, she died peacefully at Geisinger Bloomsburg Hospital after a very brief illness.
Claire was a uniquely bright and feisty woman with great smirks and winks and a wonderful sense of humor. She knew everybody and everybody knew her. She carefully read the local newspaper every day and knowingly kept up to date on everyone’s activities. The Bloomsburg Fair was a highly anticipated and beloved annual experience that she relished. An avid lifelong pinochle player, she also enjoyed much travel in various periods of her life. Driving her car was always a major joy for Claire. She enjoyed simple things and was a consummate people watcher. She especially liked interacting with others and loved and was dearly loved by her family and friends.
James Hinckley Jr. Funeral Home and Cremation Services Inc., Berwick, provided her end of life wishes. Vivid and indelible memories of Claire remain with all those she met.
