Shirley (Nan) Zimmerman, 85, passed away Sept. 5, 2017, in Augusta, Ga. She was born Sept. 23, 1931, in Lime Ridge, and lived most of her adult life in Berwick.

Nan was a Bloomsburg High School graduate, Class of 1949. She received her B.A. in Education and her Master’s in Reading Education. Nan was a teacher and Reading Specialist in the Berwick School System for 35 years. She always said she taught children, not books! Nan was a lifelong member of Bethany United Methodist Church.

Nan is survived by her husband of 65 years, David John Zimmerman, and their children: Pam (Tim) Kohlbus, Loree (Fred) Dykstra, and David John Zimmerman Jr.; grandchildren: Samantha Kohlbus Miller, Jonathan Kohlbus, and Douglas Dykstra; as well as three great-grandchildren: Hunter, Millie June, and Harley Grace. Nan’s greatest joys were her family, reading, and traveling.

Services will be held Sept. 11, at 11 a.m. at Bethany United Methodist, 116 Summerhill Ave., Berwick, with the Rev. Stephen Portner officiating. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until time of service. Burial will follow at Pine Grove Cemetery, Walnut Street.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Bethany United Methodist Church, 116 Summerhill Ave., Berwick, PA 18603.
