Ruth (Zaginaylo) Miller

Ruth Zaginaylo (Ruthie) Miller, 89, went to join Vorie on a golf course in heaven, at 8:38 am, Monday, October 24, 2016 at Lehigh Center in Macungie, PA.

Ruth Miller was born in Scranton, PA on October 14, 1927 to John and Mary (Hodel) Zaginaylo. She is the 8th of nine children in the Zaginaylo family. The family moved to the farm in Berwick when Ruthie was entering 8th grade. She was a proud graduate of the Berwick High School Class of 1945, attending many Berwick Alumni gatherings and endless football games.

After graduation, Ruth went to work in the garment industry at Berwick Shirt Co, where she met the man of her life, Voris Miller. They worked together over 35 years, mostly at Milco Industries in Benton, PA, until retirement at the ages of 57. They raised their two children, Glen and Diana in Benton, getting them involved in many sports and attending all of their games. Many people will remember Ruthie in the stands, not only cheering for the teams, but also yelling at the coaches and officials.

In retirement, golf became their full time passion. Longtime members of Berwick Country Club, Ruth made her own mark on the golfing scene with Club Championships, and many Ladies League victories. She owned two Holes-in-one at BCC. Much of the enjoyment in retirement involved trips down to Fort Washington, MD to help their son Glen at his driving range business.

Ruth took great pride in her children, Glen, a PGA professional, and Diana, a successful supply chain leader in the high tech industry, who married her most favorite son-in-law Gilbert White. Most of all, she loved spoiling her three grandchildren: Christina Miller of Arlington, VA, David White of Kansas City, MO, and Erica White of Guilford, CT.

A longtime member of Benton United Methodist Church, and First United Methodist Church of Berwick, Ruth will be singing hymns up in heaven.

Ruth was preceded in death by brother, John Zaginaylo, and sisters: Florence Zaginaylo, Stella Krush, Nadia Mele, and Mary Lingle.

She will be remembered by her loving children, Glen Miller of Ocean Isle Beach, NC and Diana White and her husband Gilbert, Wescosville, PA; three grandchildren; Christina Miller of Arlington, VA, David White and his wife Rachel of Kansas City, MO, and Erica White of Guilford, CT; sisters: Rose Pohousky, St. Charles, MO; Lillian Sayre, Woodruff, SC; Olga Schweitzer and husband Donald, Highspire, PA, and many nieces and nephews.

Services will be Saturday October 29, 2016 at 11:00 am at the James L. Hinckley Jr. Funeral Home and Cremation Services Inc., 1024 Market St., Berwick with Pastor Robert Strozyk officiating. Burial will follow at Elan Memorial Park. Family will receive friends from 10:00 am until time of service.
