Nada Ryman Obituary

Nada Noreen (Peters) Ryman, 84, of Nescopeck Township died just as she wanted, asleep in her electrically warmed bed with the air conditioner on, at her home on January 22, 2018.

She was born Aug. 23, 1933, at home in Beach Haven, a daughter of the late Martin H. and Alma M. (Kester) Peters.

Nada, who would want you to know that her name was pronounced “nay-da” not nada like the Spanish word for nothing, was the anchor of the Ryman family.

Nada’s early life involved stories of shared water wells, Depression era paychecks that were stretched to the max and being very close to her brother “Pete.”

After completing high school, Nada went on to become a registered nurse through Geisinger’s training program, graduating in 1954.  She worked in the maternity wing of the old hospital on Mulberry St. in Berwick before hanging up her pin and cap to raise a family and help her husband with their budding farm.

Her greatest achievement was her family and the matter-of-fact, warm wisdom and love that she showered on them.  She knew how to get the full value out of a dollar and somehow always made everyone feel safe, full, and loved.  The secret to her delicious Saturday and Sunday meals was a stick of butter and a tablespoon or two of sugar.

Christmas was Nada’s favorite holiday and she had a spare room dedicated to wrapping gifts.  At the farmhouse, Christmas morning always looked like the opening scenes of one of her favorite Hallmark holiday movies and her tree often stayed up well past its expiration date.

Lastly, she was a lover of animals, including her goats and dogs and could turn any animal into a devoted pet, including a turkey once reserved for Thanksgiving dinner.

She is preceded in death by her loving husband of 60 years, Raymond E., whom she had missed terribly since his death in 2015.

In addition to her husband, she was also preceded in death by her two sons, Kevin M. Ryman and David W. “Whizz” Ryman, and a sister, Gloria C. Peters.

She is survived by her daughter, Brenda L. Trump, and her husband, Scott, of Lancaster; her daughter-in-law, Carol L. Ryman, of Nescopeck; and her brother Norman “Pete” Peters, of Berwick.  She is also survived by five grandchildren:  Sarah C. Ryman, of Berwick; Michael K. Ryman and his wife,Kira, of Berwick; Hannah N. Mentrikoski and her husband, John, of Nescopeck, Capt. Neal J. Trump and his wife, Cherise, of Alexandria, VA; and Capt. Jason S. Trump and his wife Jihye, of Aberdeen, North Carolina.
