Lewis Frederick Miller Jr., 92, of Berwick, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 24, 2018, at his home with his family by his side.

He was born Jan. 26, 1925, in Mount Pleasant Township, a son of the late Lewis Frederick Sr. and Elsa (English) Miller.

Lewis attended Scott Township School. He then served in the United States Army during World War II. He was in the third wave during the D-Day invasion and on Jan. 6, 1944, the Omaha Beach invasion. During his time of service he received a Purple Heart and two oak leaf clusters, bronze arrowhead and a bronze star. He worked at Bloomsburg Mills and then ACF. He then went to work at Wise Potato Chip Plant, retiring after 34 years. He has been a member of the Evansville United Methodist Church since 1948.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Luanne E. Bankes, who passed April 10, 2010, and two sisters, Beverly Stackhouse, Leatrice Hess; and two sisters-in-law, Helen Miller and Janet Anderson; and two brothers-in-law, Ansel Anderson and Duane Belles.

Lewis is survived by his wife, Eloise May (Belles) Miller, with whom he celebrated their 70-year anniversary on Aug. 28, 2017, a son, Kevin W. Miller, and his wife, Denise, a son-in-law, Alan R. Bankes; three grandchildren: Bethann and her husband, Rich Pinterich, Susan and her husband, Joe Kowalski, and Warren Miller; seven great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; a brother, Kenneth Miller, and a sister, Dawn Whalen; a sister-in-law, Christine Belles, and brother-in-law, Neil Belles and his wife, Joyce; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Services will be Monday at noon at the James L. Hinckley Jr. Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc. 1024 N. Market St., Berwick. Burial will be at the Briar Creek Union Cemetery.
