Debrath Strong Obituary

Debrath Ann Strong, 73, of Teaneck, NJ passed away on January 19, 2018 following a long illness.  She was born September 11, 1944 in Berwick, PA, a daughter of the late Nicholas and Mary (Lehnowsky) Lopashanski.

Debbie attended Berwick High School and then graduated from Nesbitt Hospital School of Nursing. She grew up in Berwick, PA before moving to New York City where she married and started her family.  She moved to Teaneck, NJ where she raised her two children and played a very active role in their lives.

For 40 years, Debbie cared for patients and their families at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York City.  She cared deeply for her patients and their families and provided that care with empathy and compassion.  In her personal life, Debbie was a devoted wife, loving mother and caregiver to her parents as they grew older.  She was always caring for others.  Debbie enjoyed baking and designing cakes to the delight of her family.   In retirement, Debbie’s greatest joy was spending time with her two grandchildren.

Debbie is survived by John Henry Strong, whom she married April 12, 1969.  John is an incredibly dedicated and loving husband who provided wonderful care for Debbie during her extended illness. She is also survived by her son Brendan Twohig Strong and his wife Claudia Silvietti of Topsfield, MA, daughter Colleen Marie Strong of Arlington, MA, two grandchildren: Alexander John and Sofia Marie Strong, and brother Barry Lopashanski and his wife Carol of Nescopeck, PA.
